Understanding Trauma for Educators

Participants will:
Describe trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and the impact they have on student learning.
Recognize that compassion fatigue is a risk for staff members.
Understand how a systems approach reduces the negative impact trauma has on learning.
Provide a few strategies to staff to begin the journey of becoming more trauma informed.
Important Session Information:
This is a three hour professional development opportunity for educators to develop an understanding of trauma as it applies to the needs of students, schools, and systems. Participants will learn about how trauma affects learning and brain development, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), how trauma may affect staff, and some strategies that may counteract the effects of trauma on students and the school systems.
