PBIS Tier 1 Training

- PBIS district/school teams




  • Understand the rationale for implementing PBIS.

  • Identify instructional practices for teaching expectations.
  • Develop a lesson plan to teach expectations across all settings.
  • Describe your current model of encouraging appropriate behavior
  • Develop a systemic, proactive plan for encouraging appropriate behavior.
  • Explore resources to assist in developing the plan.
  • Develop a systemic, proactive plan for discouraging and responding to challenging behavior for your building or district.
  • Understand the rationale for establishing a data-based decision-making system.
  • Learn how to apply the steps in making data-based decisions.
  • Learn how to collect and use data for decision-making for the school, targeted groups, and individual students.
  • Learn how to access and use PBIS assessments, surveys, and tools to inform PBIS leadership teams.

The Tier 1 PBIS Series is intended for district/school teams in compliance with HB 318. HB 318 requires each school district to implement a PBIS framework for all schools in the district.

This training is focused on schools/districts who HAVE NOT YET implemented a PBIS Model. (Schools in accountability status will receive PBIS support through the State Support Teams, SST)

Each participating team in the series will be responsible to attend all sessions and train staff in their district/school.

The following modules will  be covered over the four sessions

January 16:

Module 1: Introduction to PBIS and Developing a  Leadership Team

  • Understand the rationale for implementing PBIS

  • Identify the "requirements" for PBIS in Ohio

Module 2: Develop Clear Expectations

  • Develop behavior expectations for the school

  • Develop a matrix for the expectations

February 5:

Module 3: Teach Expectations

  • Identify instructional practices for teaching expectations

  • Develop a lesson plan to teach expectations across all settings

Module 4: Encourage Appropriate Behavior

  • Describe your current model of encouraging appropriate behavior

  • Develop a systemic, proactive plan for encouraging appropriate behavior

  • Explore resources to assist in developing the plan

March 5:

Module 5: Discourage & Respond to Challenging Behavior

  • Develop a systemic, proactive plan for discouraging and responding to challenging behavior for your building or district. 

May 5:

Module 6:  Data Based Decision Making

  • Understand the rationale for establishing a data-based decision-making system.

  • Learn how to apply the steps in making data-based decisions.

  • Learn how to collect and use data for decision-making for the school, targeted groups, and individual students.

  • Learn how to access and use PBIS assessments, surveys, and tools to inform PBIS leadership teams.
