Re-thinking School-Age Language Assessment

- Audience: Speech-Language Pathologists serving students PreK-12




  • Use 3 criteria for evaluating a standardized language test.
  • Identify currently understood risk factors and clinical markers of language impairment.
  • Examine how to synthesize test results so that the SLP, not standardized test results, make the decision for disability and characteristics of the disability.
  • Identify at least 2 diagnostically accurate language tests for use with a school-age SLP caseload.

Important Session Information:


Participants in this webinar will “re-think” how Speech-Language Pathologists conduct language assessment. What is known about risk factors and clinical indicators of language impairment as part of the diagnostic process will be examined. Selection, interpretation, and utilization of standardized test scores will be discussed. Some new and interesting tools to add to the assessment “tool box” will be shared. This session will address the language assessment needs of children PreK- HS with an emphasis on children ages PreK – seventh grade.
