Strengths-Based Assessment & Intervention of Social Communication: Focus on Social-Emotional, Interoceptive Awareness and Self-Advocacy

Important Session Information:


This session will present a strengths-based approach to assessment and intervention of social communication that focuses on social-emotional and interoceptive awareness, self-advocacy, motivation, and reflective self-awareness. Video-modeling strategies will be used which can provide tailored assistance in fostering a positive autistic identity. Additionally, this session will address neurodiversity- affirming strategies such as student strength surveys, interest based self-rating checklists, and goal-writing suggestions. This presentation will explain the limitations of standardized assessments and differentiate between diagnostic versus strengths-based assessments.
