Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC) has rapidly evolved from research to a powerful educational movement, inspiring educators globally. If you've embraced the BTC framework and are now seeking more tasks, deeper insight into task design, and practical strategies for implementation across all grade levels, this unique hybrid book study is designed for you!
This course combines practices and thinking tasks from both Mathematics Tasks for the Thinking Classroom, K-5 and Mathematics Tasks for the Thinking Classroom, 6-12. For the first time, educators from all grade bands (K-12, including specialists and coaches) are invited to collaboratively dive into the expanded research, task design principles, and new practical examples that have the power to get and keep students thinking.
Participants will select their personalized learning route:
K-5 Route: Focus your reading and primary discussion on Mathematics Tasks for the Thinking Classroom, K-5.
6-12 Route: Focus your reading and primary discussion on Mathematics Tasks for the Thinking Classroom, 6-12.
You are NOT expected to read both books. You will, however, benefit from the cross-grade discussions during the online modules, virtual meetings, and the in-person session.
This course utilizes a flexible hybrid format to accommodate all schedules:
Online Discussion Boards: Module structured discussions to reflect on readings, share insights, and pose questions within your designated K-5 or 6-12 route.
Optional Zoom Sessions: Live, virtual meet-ups for real-time collaboration, Q&A, and deeper dives into the practices (all routes together).
Optional Half-Day, In-Person Session: A culminating, dedicated session where we join together to "think together" on tasks, learn from one another's experiences across all grade bands, and collaboratively plan future tasks for our thinking classrooms.
