This comprehensive professional development series, offered by ReimaginED Teaching, LLC, is designed to empower PreK and Kindergarten teachers with practical, research-based strategies to foster a vibrant classroom community and deepen mathematical understanding. Through engaging routines and playful approaches, participants will discover how to ignite children's innate curiosity and transform their early math instruction.
The series begins with a full-day session that dives into a variety of high-leverage reasoning routines and games. You'll explore easy-to-implement strategies to engage students in meaningful mathematical thinking, with video examples demonstrating successful classroom implementation. The day is designed to build your confidence and willingness to integrate these powerful routines into your daily practice.
Following the full-day session, the learning continues with four focused one-hour virtual sessions, expanding on key topics and introducing more sophisticated routines:
- Virtual Hour 1: Quick Images to Develop Sight Quantities: Discover how to effectively use quick images to build subitizing fluency and foundational addition strategies.
- Virtual Hour 2: Assessing Mathematical Reasoning Through Interviews: Learn practical techniques, including clinical interviews, to truly understand what your students know and how to use this insight to differentiate instruction.
- Virtual Hour 3: Using Games Strategically for Mathematical Reasoning: Explore the crucial role of play in early math, examining how to select and implement "Just-Right Games" that align with individual student needs and foster deep reasoning.
- Virtual Hour 4: Connecting Children's Literature to Math Routines: Uncover innovative ways to leverage beloved children's books to spark mathematical thinking, develop rich mathematical talk, and integrate routines like "Describe What You See."
Throughout this series, we will focus on the big ideas and developmental progression in early number, cultivate vibrant mathematical communication and talk in your classroom, explore essentials of lesson design that meet the needs of all learners, and master assessment strategies to inform your planning. Join us to transform your early childhood math instruction into an exciting journey of discovery and deep learning!
