According to the Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 61, every newly elected school board member is required to complete an orientation to the Texas Education Code (TEC). This orientation is provided through the Education Service Center (ESC) serving the district.
To support compliance with this requirement, Region 4 Education Service Center offers a series of school board training sessions specifically designed for first-year board members. These sessions not only fulfill the statutory orientation requirement but also provide essential knowledge and practical guidance to help new trustees effectively carry out their governance responsibilities.
Through this training, new board members gain a foundational understanding of their legal duties, policy responsibilities, and ethical obligations, as well as insight into the structure and operation of Texas public education. By participating in these sessions, trustees are better prepared to make informed decisions, engage collaboratively with their fellow board members, and serve their local school community with confidence and accountability.
