The goal of the Drug Impairment Training for Educational Professionals session is to enable secondary educators to recognize the signs and symptoms of drug and/or alcohol impairment, in order to:
- Prevent an impaired student from driving away from campus and/or
- Serve as a treatment intervention tool to reduce future instances of DWI.
Upon completion of this session, secondary educators will be able to:
- describe the involvement of drugs in schools and society.
- outline the important elements of the Texas Education Code, Texas Penal Code, and an effective school policy as they relate to drug and/or alcohol use and possession.
- list the seven drug categories and recognize the outward signs and symptoms of impairment associated with each.
- identify the key factors that should be considered when discussing substance abuse with a parent.
- properly document observations.
It is hoped this training will ultimately reduce the number of underage alcohol and/or drug related traffic fatalities.
