This session will explore the
therapist’s role in ensuring proper seating, positioning, and support of
students with special needs during transportation on the school bus. Effective
accommodations and modifications will be discussed which take into account
the impact of common problems and medical issues on the entire transportation
experience from bus stop to drop off. Discussion includes issues affecting
daily rides to those supports needed during an emergency. Designing
individualized transportation plans for students who use wheelchairs, those
with sensory processing or behavioral concerns and those with non-obvious
disabilities will be a focus.
