Balanced Literacy Approach in the ESL Prekindergarten Classroom

A balanced literacy approach focuses on a variety of authentic reading and writing experiences. This session will include developmentally appropriate activities that target early literacy skills of English Learners (EL) prekindergarten students. All literacy components of the balanced literacy approach will be discussed during this session. Participants will create procedures that meet the individual needs of their students in a fun hands-on experience that will support immediate, intentional and relevant implementation of literacy activities. The training will include mentor texts and materials for interactive read-aloud and shared reading. Space is limited. RECESS Grant Initiative 1 will cover enrollment fees and materials.
