This session is intended to provide speech-language pathologists in the school based setting with the knowledge and skills to appropriately evaluate and treat voice disorders. The goal is to create a process for navigating the diagnosis, management, therapeutic interventions, and generalization of voice interventions.
Information regarding non-instrumental voice evaluations will be provided, including perceptual analysis, stimulability techniques, and incorporation of videostroboscopy results (if available). Perceptual voice symptoms commonly associated with behavioral, neurological, and organic etiologies will be reviewed. Typical vocal pathologies and disorders will be discussed. Knowledge of common etiologies and perceptual voice symptoms is fundamental to selecting an appropriate treatment plan for the voice student.
