Making Sense of the Six Syllable Types

Six written syllable-spelling conventions are used in spelling English words. Familiarity with these syllable patterns helps students know how to pronounce the vowels in words, how to read longer words accurately and fluently, and gives them a better understanding of spelling patterns. This online training will help teachers organize decoding and spelling instruction by giving them detailed descriptions of each syllable type, the steps to implement syllable type instruction, and specific strategies that can be taught to assist students to decode multi-syllable words.
