Promoting a Strong School Culture Through Restorative Practices (Virtual)

Research has shown how traditional school discipline systems like suspension and detention contribute to the school to prison pipeline and do not improve student outcomes. These practices fail to make schools safer and disproportionately impact students of color. Restorative practices have been implemented in schools and districts across the country and around the world to create inclusive and welcoming spaces for all students where the focus is on relationships and community in place of punitive discipline. If you are considering adopting restorative practices or are interested in beefing up your school or district’s policies, this session will help you analyze your practices and identify how to be more restorative and build a welcoming, supportive, and safe environment in your school(s).
