In this session participants will discuss discourse mapping as a term for both the process of analyzing texts in interpreter education and skill development with features of an interpretation that use linguistic features to create a connected and cohesive product.
Participants will be shown examples of what discourse mapping means and share brief research items about how to recognize it. Will look at elements that must be incorporated to add to a cohesive message such as use of space, listing, placement, and use of expansion. Participants will have practice time with voice to sign and discussion about sign choices to aid discourse mapping.
Session and session materials are partially funded by state or federal funds.
