Join your colleagues on a tour of the phonological awareness skills needed for successful reading and writing. Participants will journey through all levels of the continuum to acquire activities for counting words in a sentence, recognizing and manipulating syllables in words, using onset and rime to teach alliteration and rhyming skills, and teaching the phonemic awareness hierarchy of skills to prepare students for the world of phonics. Educators who create a firm foundation in phonological awareness skills provide students with the opportunity to make a successful transition to use letter and sound association with automaticity for literacy success.
All participants will receive a copy of the Phonological Awareness On the Go! cards to use in the classroom. This product describes each level of the phonological awareness continuum and provides sample lessons with activities that can be used in small groups, whole group, or any time there is an extra few minutes in the day to practice this essential part to literary achievement.
