Curriculum-Based Measurements (CBMs) for Dyslexia

The Texas Dyslexia Handbook 2024, states that the required Dyslexia member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team must be trained in current research and evidence-based assessments that are used to identify the most common characteristics of dyslexia. Likewise, the dyslexia member must be trained in how to administer and interpret curriculum-based measurements used to assess the most common characteristics of dyslexia.

This course introduces Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBM) as a tool for assessing student progress and informing instructional decisions. Participants will learn the fundamentals of CBMs, including how to select appropriate measures based on student needs and instructional goals. The course covers the administration and scoring of common CBMs for reading, offering practical strategies for using these assessments to monitor student progress. Additionally, participants will explore how to make data-driven instructional decisions and choose the most effective assessments for ongoing progress monitoring in educational settings.
