Through activities focusing on whole number operations and fraction concepts, this academy is designed to strengthen participants knowledge of mathematics concepts and procedures, improve overall mathematics instruction, and lead to student success on statewide assessments and post-secondary readiness.
Participants will-
- examine the grade 4 TEKS through the lens of TEKS clarity and explore critical checkpoints for student understanding;
- experience classroom-ready activities, including formative assessment and follow-up activities that account for learner variability;
- describe the difference between procedural fluency and automaticity and the role of automaticity within the application of grade 4 TEKS;
- build a toolkit of strategies and key questions through analysis of activities for students with memory challenges, emergent bilingual students, students struggling to learn mathematics, and gifted/talented learners; and
- explore structures that provide opportunities for meaningful practice.
