A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is a systematic, evidence-based process for assessing behavior and the context in which it occurs that has been established as a proactive approach that can be used at the first signs of challenging behavior. One primary goal of a FBA is to guide the development of effective, positive interventions based on the function (or purpose) of the behavior, oftentimes in the form of a behavior support plan.
During this training, participants will:
-Explore federal and state guidance on FBAs for 504- and IDEA-eligible students.
-Learn the foundations to understanding behaviors.
-Examine systematic methods to conduct FBAs, including collecting and analyzing data.
-Understand the process of developing a positive behavior support plan.
-Identify how to align replacement behaviors to the FBA and behavior support plan.
-Discuss best practices in progress monitoring.
