Science Speaker Series: Developing Misconception-Oriented Formative Assessment Probes
Presented by Page Keeley

In this interactive workshop, presented by Page Keeley, participants will learn how to design and use formative assessment probes that uncover students’ commonly held ideas in science. These carefully crafted questions and scenarios are powerful tools for revealing student thinking, identifying misconceptions, and informing instruction. Participants will explore and create examples across a variety of TEKS-based science topics, discuss research-based principles for writing effective probes, and develop their own probes to use in their classrooms. This hands-on session will empower educators to better understand students’ thinking and create starting points for learning experiences that build on students’ ideas.
