“The Overlap of Spoken and Written Language” will provide participants with information about how spoken language overlaps with written language with connections to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This session will leave participants with knowledge about evaluation and eligibility in the area of language in order to help build an effective therapy program while also addressing the variety of supports and services available to students in the Least Restrictive Environment by a variety of personnel in the school setting.
Learner Outcomes:
1. State the overlap of the six areas of language within the requirements for general education instruction according to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
2. Identify each of the areas of language in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
3. Explain the requirements of IDEA relative to the provision of language services.
4. Discuss therapy considerations for each of the six areas of language.
This is an intermediate course, and participants will receive .6 continuing education units (CEUs) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
