Beyond the Hold: Campus Crisis Team Protocols for Safer, Smarter Responses

In this 6-hour interactive session, participants will explore practical strategies for managing behavior crises in school settings, focusing on prevention, de-escalation, and post-crisis support. Through a combination of expert-led discussions, group activities, role-playing, and real-world case studies, attendees will gain the skills necessary to effectively handle situations that may lead to physical restraint.

Why This Session Matters

  1. Creating a Safer, More Supportive Environment
    • By developing clear, structured crisis response protocols, we ensure that students and staff are better protected during behavior escalations, leading to safer and more supportive school environments.
  2. Improving Emotional Regulation and De-escalation Skills
    • This session equips educators and staff with essential de-escalation skills to manage behavior crises effectively, fostering an environment where students feel heard, understood, and supported.
  3. Building Stronger Relationships with Students
    • Learning and implementing effective practices after a crisis helps rebuild trust, repair relationships, and prevent future conflicts, creating a positive school culture and improving student engagement.
  4. Empowering Staff with the Tools They Need
    • When staff are confident in their crisis response skills, they feel more capable of handling challenging behaviors, reducing stress and increasing overall school morale and effectiveness.
  5. Reducing the Need for Physical Restraint
    • Implementing proper de-escalation techniques and crisis protocols minimizes the likelihood of physical restraint and focuses on non-violent, compassionate approaches to resolving conflicts.

By the end of the session, participants will:

  1. Understand the key components of a non-violent crisis intervention approach.
  2. Be able to create or refine a behavior crisis response protocol tailored to their campus.
  3. Explore effective strategies for responding to behavior escalations before, during, and after a restraint.
  4. Strengthen their ability to use trauma-informed and de-escalation skills in real-time situations.
  5. Collaborate with peers to develop actionable plans for their crisis team.
