Harris County Sheriff’s Office Annual School Safety Meeting & Tabletop Exercise

In alignment with HB 33 – The Uvalde Strong Act, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office will host its Annual School Safety Meeting with local education agencies, in collaboration with the Region 4 Education Service Center Office of Emergency Management and School Safety.
This session will include a tabletop exercise designed to strengthen interagency coordination and enhance preparedness for school-based emergencies. Participants will engage in a scenario-driven discussion focused on school safety response protocols, lessons learned, and the practical implementation of emergency plans.
Required Participants (per HB 33)
Each school district must have the following representatives in attendance:
- Superintendent
- Chief of Police
- Chief Administrative Officer for School Resource Officers (SROs) or designee
Additional Attendees: Each Superintendent may bring up to three additional participants, in addition to their Police Chief or designee and Chief Administrative Officer for SROs (total up to 5 participants per District).
Agenda topics:
- School safety
- Coordinated law enforcement response to school violence
- Law enforcement capabilities and available resources
- Interoperability of emergency radio systems
- Emergency operations plan for each public school
- Conduct and initial baseline active threat tabletop exercise
This session provides a critical opportunity to build relationships, share best practices, and ensure that all school safety stakeholders are aligned and prepared for collaborative emergency response.
