UDCA Training
Share
Description: This comprehensive online training prepares non-medical school personnel to serve as Unlicensed Diabetes Care Assistants (UDCAs) in accordance with Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 168 (HB 984). Utilizing the American Diabetes Association’s gold-standard Safe at School curriculum, this course provides the essential knowledge needed to support students with diabetes when a school nurse is not immediately available. What You Will Learn: Diabetes Basics: Understanding Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in the school setting. Emergency Recognition: Identifying and treating hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). Clinical Tasks: Instruction on blood glucose monitoring, ketone testing, and the administration of insulin and glucagon. Legal Compliance: Reviewing the Individualized Health Plan (IHP) and Diabetes Management and Treatment Plan (DMMP) requirements. Course Requirements: To receive a certificate of completion, participants must finish all on-demand modules and pass the final knowledge assessment. Note to Participants: In compliance with Texas law, online knowledge training must be supplemented by a hands-on skills verification conducted by your campus RN or a qualified healthcare professional before performing UDCA duties.
