Fostering Algebraic Thinking is a professional development academy composed of four modules. The goal of the professional development academy is to help mathematics teachers in grades 5-12 learn to identify, describe, and foster algebraic thinking in their students and understand students' thinking through the analysis of different kinds of data, such as student work and classroom observations. The training is built around
Fostering Algebraic Thinking
by Mark Driscoll. The habits of thinking that are required for students to be successful algebra students will be examined.
Day 1 focuses on the introduction of the “Algebraic Habits of Mind” and provides opportunities to analyze student work.
