Numeracy for Secondary Students Day 5: Decimals and Fractions: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication & Division
Share
In this session you will find problem strings and activities to help students with strategies for decimal and fraction addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. By using these strings and activities, you will build the important concepts of fraction equivalence and place value for decimals. You will strengthen students' facility with the multiple meanings of fractions, especially those of fractions as operators, fractions as quotients, and fractions as measures. Strings can also help reinforce whole number computation. Your students will be engaged, willing to think, and more confident in their justifications. They will be able to transfer their understandings born from reasoning though complex concepts to higher math.
