504, IDEA and Dyslexia Assessment




This Institute will be presented by Criselda Alvarado of Education and Evaluation consultants.  The three day event is designed to address assessments that appropriately identify the special learning needs of English language learners - ELLs.  Educational Diagnosticians and related personnel will benefit greatly from the information provided.

Important Session Information:


Daily topics for this 3 day event include:
 Day 1: Foundation: Dyslexia and English Language Learners including definition and characteristic of dyslexia, differences between the Spanish and English reading process, brain and educational research on dyslexia and the English language learner, the influence of socioeconomic factors on literacy and oral language, and litigation and legislation.
 Day 2: 504 and IDEA Testing of Dyslexia including the 504 and IDEA 2004 evaluation process, in-depth review of available test instruments in Spanish that can be used in dyslexia testing, use of interpreters and the primary/ancillary examiner approach in testing.
 Day 3: Report Writing and interpretation including cumulative data and its interpretation, oral language proficiency and dominance testing, academic skills testing, cognitive processes testing, interpretation of test results, sample 504 and FIE reports of bilingual dyslexia testing. 

Participants will receive materials at the training.
