The Essentials of Science Day 4: Fresh Approaches to Teaching Minority Students
STMs Only
Share
The long-standing problem of getting minority students to achieve in science needs a new perspective. Science teachers must move away from traditional approaches of lecture and rote memorization, typical in many schools that are under fire for poor academic performance. Rather than seeing minority students as having cultural deficits that need "filling up" with lectures and memory drills, educators may find it more effective to first find out what their students know and how they think.
