Assessment for Learning Day 1: Formative Assessment, Gathering Evidence, and Effective Questioning




How do you view assessment? Participants will dissect a model of the formative assessment cycle and identify reasons why formative assessment is important. Evaluation of vignettes from different science content activities will provide a medium in which to identify different types of formative assessments and how they are used at different points throughout the lesson cycle. Identification of the behavioral indicators of development found within student work will allow participants to gather data to make informed instructional decisions. Finally, effective questioning will be analyzed and practiced to bring forth evaluation of content mastery on the appropriate rigor level.
