STAAR Writing-Persuasive Scoring Swap (Grade10)




Bring your students' STAAR persuasive writing papers and participate in a scoring swap! This session will review the scoring requirements for the STAAR persuasive essay, and then allow participants to score students' papers and have others score their students' papers for a wider perspective on students' abilities. See additional notes for the writing prompt.

Important Session Information:


Please bring student essays written to the following prompt:

Even in difficult circumstances, some people focus on the positive aspects of life. Think carefully about this statement.

Write an essay stating your opinion on whether a person can choose to be happy.

Be sure to —

• state your position clearly

• use appropriate organization

• provide specific support for your argument

• choose your words carefully

• edit your writing for grammar, mechanics, and spelling
