Texas Educational Diagnosticians and Licensed Specialists in School Psychology (LSSPs) have been using the Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) theory-based assessment since the movement away from the discrepancy models. Advances in both CHC Theory and in test design have led to greater efficiency in the testing process as well as improved diagnostic precision. This session will introduce the participants to the principles underlying the C-SEP process and the basics of the process. This session will also demonstrate how to identify a pattern of strengths and weaknesses (PSW) using the core-selective approach, yielding diagnostically useful, legally defensible information in a time-efficient manner. Training outcomes include:
-
Strengthen understanding of C-SEP and apply C-SEP method to real data to transition to a PSW model via an "out with the old, in with the new" discussion
- Improve Data Analysis (what does the data say?) and Data Interpretation (what does the data mean?).
- Improve competence and confidence as we transition from a mathematical formula approach to a PSW model.
