Supporting Students' Productive Struggle in Middle School Mathematics Day 2: Student Work

Students struggle through mathematics on a regular basis.  This is not new information.  What is new, is that this does not have to be a bad thing.  When the natural struggle of a student is turned from just struggle to a productive struggle, something magical occurs.  The students become passionate about their learning and the material in which is being given to them.  They feel empowered to push themselves further and challenge not only their own thinking but their classmate's thinking as well.  During this session, participants will dive deep into what the productive struggle looks like from students' perspectives.  Also, teachers will learn how to engage every learner in the classroom from the second class begins until the very last second of class.  This session will explore the path in which teachers should take when questioning their students and what answers should we be looking for from our students as they go through their learning.
