CAPS: Comprehensive Autism Planning System for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders




The Comprehensive Autism Planning System (CAPS) is an easy to use framework that helps teachers organize daily instructional planning for students who have characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder. This system helps education staff optimize a student's daily program in a way that incorporates needed supports and encourages consistent, meaningful implementation across domains. CAPS is appropriate for use with students from Preschool to Post-Secondary ages and it addresses all of the following:

  • Structure/Modifications
  • Reinforcement
  • Sensory Strategies
  • Communication/Social Skills
  • Data Collection
  • Generalization in Varied Settings

Education Service Center, Region 6 is excited to welcome Dr. Brenda Smith Myles, co-author of "The Comprehensive Autism Planning System (CAPS) for Individuals with Asperger Syndrome, Autism, and Related Disabilities: Integrating Best Practices Throughout the Student's Day".  This framework incorporates best practices in an easy-to-use format that helps educators provide the necessary communication and data to promote success for students with autism and significant cognitive disabilities.
