Routines for Reasoning Day 1: Capturing Quantities and Connecting Representations

Routines can keep your classroom running smoothly.  Now imagine having a set of routines focused not only on classroom management but on helping students develop their mathematical thinking skills.  This session provides expert guidance for weaving the Standards for Mathematical Practice into teaching the classroom by harnessing the power of classroom-tested instructional routines. The first two of four routines include opportunities for encouraging abstract and quantitative reasoning along with noticing and using mathematical structure with students.  Participants will engage in hands-on activities that capture the structure needed to lead students on a successful path.
