Talk the Talk with Number Talks -Grades K-5
Share
What is a number talk?
It is a five to fifteen minute classroom conversation around purposefully crafted computation problems that are solved mentally. The best part of a teacher's day.
Number talks are an essential component in today's classrooms. By providing equity and access in learning, teachers can build mathematically powerful students in grades K-5. In this session we will explore what a number talk is, and how to follow children's thinking and pose the right questions to build understanding of the operations of addition and subtraction. Participants will view video clips of teachers and students engaged in number talks, and discuss common strategies.
