Migrant Local Needs Assessment Committee Meeting
Identifying Continuing Needs and Priorities of Migrant Students

The Local Needs Assessment (LNA) provides an opportunity to review local data on Migrant students, identify needs, and propose research based solutions to meet those needs.  LNA results can be used to inform Migrant Education Program (MEP) applications, MEP services, and ways to improve services to migrant students and their families. LNA results should serve as the foundation for all decisions about services, resource allocation, and staff and parent development. During the meeting the Local Needs Assessment Committee (LNAC) will assist by ensuring that the perspectives of the local projects are included in the discussion, analyze existing data and help identify areas where additional data are needed, think strategically about the data, develop concerns relevant to the purpose of the MEP and identify root causes of the concerns, review and analyze data, select and prioritize solutions that will address needs, and communicate the LNA process and share input from other stakeholders and colleagues.

Important Session Information:

Using tools provided by the LNA Toolkit, the LNAC will brainstorm greatest concerns about migrant students in relation to the four goals areas of Reading, Mathematics, School Readiness and High School Graduation/Services to Out-of_School Youth (OSY). Finally, LNAC will complete the LNA Strategy Plan as a committee, which will help identify how Strategies are going to be implemented into the Texas MEP Service Delivery Plan (SDP).
