Strengths-based Approaches to 21st Century Transitions: Promoting Self-Determination and Student Involvement
Special Education Transition & Self-Determination


This daylong session will examine strengths-based understandings of disability and how such approaches link to changes in the world of work in the 21st century. Themes of career construction and life design and their importance to all young people, including youth with disabilities, will be explored. The session will overview self-determination, examine its importance in 21st century transitions, and examine the role of student self-determined learning and student involvement. Participants will learn about evidence-based practices to promote self-determination, self-determined learning, career design and planning, and student involvement.
Important Session Information:

This session will be available to attend at the Region 6 Education Service Center in Huntsville, as well as, via Distance Learning (DL). If you are planning to view via DL, indicate this during registration by selecting "Participate via Distance Learning". Participants who are part of the DL fee service will receive the connection information the day prior to the event. Out of Region 6 participants will need to contact the IVC team at 936-435-8212 to verify your connection for Distance Learning. Participants will not be allowed to join the session 15 minutes after the session begins.
