A TEA resource developed professional development session on Perkins V & Statewide Programs of Study.
Perkins V is the new federal legislation guiding CTE programs across the country and in our state. We call it Perkins V because it follows Perkins IV and it is the improved, revised, and updated national legislation for CTE. The official title of the legislation is the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, It was passed with bipartisan support in Congress. Perkins V calls upon states to create sequences of academic and Career Technical Education (CTE) coursework to help students attain a post-secondary degree or industry-recognized certificate or credential, otherwise known as programs of study (POS).
