Project TAPP: Tackling Autism via Paraprofessional Preparation
Day 1: Presentations 1 and 2




Paraprofessionals and teaching assistants that work with students with autism...are you interested in increasing your knowledge and skills in working with these students? This is the opportunity for you! 

Project TAPP: Tackling Autism via Paraprofessional Preparation is a 3-day workshop on applied behavior analysis for paraprofessionals who work with students with autism. The opportunity is offered through the Special Education Division of Texas A&M University. Participants will gain an increased knowledge of characteristics of students with autism and other developmental disabilities and specifically learn about the following topics:

  • Reinforcement
  • Functions of Behavior
  • Prompting
  • Instructional Strategies 
  • Enhanced Implementation Skills
  • Option of 3-Months of Follow-Up Support

Important Session Information:


Day 1 of Project TAPP includes the following presentations:

Presentation 1 (AM Session)

Introduction to ASD and ABA: This presentation will provide an overview of the basic characteristics of autism, as well as some foundational concepts of applied behavior analysis (ABA) and how its application in a classroom setting can support behavioral, academic, and social variables for students with autism. Participants will have ample opportunity to engage with the content and practice the skills learned throughout. 

Presentation 2 (PM Session)

Responding to Problem Behavior: This presentation will build on the foundational knowledge learned about ABA by discussing tips and tricks for understanding and responding to problem behavior in a school setting. Strategies recommended are grounded in behavioral science and employ evidence-based ABA "tools." Participants will have ample opportunity to engage with the content and practice the skills learned throughout.
