Team Toolbox! Tips, Tools, and Collaboration for Educators Supporting Students with Autism and Significant Cognitive Disabilities
Session 1: Planning the 2020-2021 School Year

Teaching students with significant autism and/or low incidence disabilities requires educators to wear many hats and be focused and intentional during daily instruction. This series of webinars are designed to provide teachers resources and time to build professional connections with colleagues who work directly with students who have been diagnosed with ASD, ID, or have significant academic and behavior support needs. Some of the topics addressed may include:

  • Classroom structure and organization
  • Visual supports and communication
  • Video modeling, social narratives, and mindfulness
  • Active learning methods
  • Literacy for students with AU/LID
  • Assistive technology devices
  • Challenges of virtual/blended learning for students with significant support needs

Important Session Information:

Session 2 of the 2020-2021 school year.

Guest speaker will be Lisa Rogers, Educating Diverse Learners.

The focus of this series is to process the experiences (good, bad, and ugly!) of last school year when the landscape of educational settings transitioned from school as we have always known it to a socially-distanced model. During this session, we will process the lessons learned and begin proactively planning for the next chapter. Virtual and blended learning specifically for students with significant to severe needs will be discussed. Participant feedback will be used to develop the focus of the following sessions of Tuesday Toolbox webinars.
