Lead4ward - Unlocking Reading Achievement: Developing Comprehension in Elementary Students with Disabilities Grades 3-5

As many as 80% of elementary students with disabilities are struggling readers.  How do we help these students read and comprehend text? How can we support the thinking skills required to make meaningful progress in the reading TEKS? What if we committed to becoming champions of the reading process standards! The process standards are consistent across grade levels, highly correlated with overall performance on statewide assessment, and help educators differentiate for learners. They serve as high-impact standards to assist with instructional focus, effective progress monitoring, and alignment of IEP goals and objectives.


What you will learn:

  • How to prioritize the process TEKS in reading instruction/intervention for elementary students with disabilities
  • Evidence-based instructional strategies to support the reading process
  • Tools for assessing student mastery of the reading process to inform the IEP
  • A plan for focusing the role of the special educator
