Foundations of Teaching Students with Significant Support Needs Including Autism
Session 3: The Importance of Communication for Student Success in the Special Education Classroom




This professional development series will review evidence-based practices for learners with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other significant support needs, providing attendees with tools and strategies to employ in the coming school year and beyond. Featured topics include: 

  • Day 1: Foundations of Behavior Analysis in the Special Education Classroom
  • Day 2: Data Collection and Data-Informed Planning in the Special Education Classroom
  • Day 3: The Importance of Communication for Student Success in the Special Education Classroom
  • Day 4: Planning and Implementing Group Instruction in the Special Education Classroom

Attendees will learn about the benefits of specific practices, the process of planning for, teaching, and incorporating these practices across learning environments, and have opportunities to apply each topic to their own classrooms.


Important Session Information:


This is the third session of four professional development events presented by Dr. Erinn Whiteside, Ph.D., BCBA-D, Clinical Assistant Professor, Texas A&M University. Each session is designed to prepare special educators working with students who have significant support needs, including autism spectrum diagnosis. This session will include a focus on the importance of communication for student success in the special education classroom.

This event is currently planned to be on-site at Region 6 ESC with the understanding that Region 6 ESC expects employees and attendees will follow all CDC recommendations for health and safety.
