Special Education Evaluations for English Language Learners
Best Practices for Conducting Bilingual Assessments for Monolingual Evaluators




The goal of this training is to ensure Special Education Evaluators are equipped with the knowledge and skills to respond to the unique evaluation needs of English Language Learners. Thus, guiding Special Education Evaluation Personnel in best practices of implementing culturally and linguistically appropriate evaluations for English Language Learners.



Important Session Information:


The sessions will focus on training Monolingual Educational Diagnosticians, Licensed Specialists in School Psychology, and Speech and Language Pathologists on the process of evaluating English Language Learners for a possible IDEA disability. The training will divide the evaluation process into three parts: before, during, and after. The before session will focus on how to determine language dominance, the during session will focus on evaluation instrument and interpretation, and the after session will focus on recommendations and procedures for the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee. In addition, exclusionary factors will be examined thoroughly.

Please note participants must attend all three session dates to get credit for the training.

This is a virtual event utilizing the Zoom platform, participants are not required to create a zoom account. A computer set-up must include internet and camera capabilities. Participants will receive a Zoom link via email to join prior to the session. Check “My Account” on the registration page to ensure  our email address in the ESC6 registration system is correct. Check-in is recommended 20-15 minutes prior to the start time of the event to allow entry into the session.
