A leading research-based method of identifying students with
a specific learning disability is the Cross-Battery Assessment Approach (XBA)
which is based on the Cattell-Horn-Carroll (C-H-C) theory of cognitive
abilities, which specifically looks at students’ patterns of strengths and
weakness with regard to specific learning disability identification. The
Cross-Battery Approach has been integrated into the Cross-Battery Assessment
Software System (X-BASS) allowing school evaluation specialists the ability to
analyze data from multiple batteries to assist in determining a pattern of
strengths and weaknesses within a student’s cognitive and academic ability
profile.
