Student Discipline and the Law for Campus Administrators (Chapter 37)

Presentation by Walsh Gallegos Firm

Chapter 37 provides an array of tools to maintain school safety and discipline in our classrooms allowing teachers to teach and students to learn.  One of the important things to remember about Chapter 37 is that school administrators are provided a great amount of discretionary authority in taking action.  This session  provides an overview of TEC - Chapter 37 mandates regarding student discipline law and how disciplinary offenses and consequences should be coded in the PEIMS data management and reporting system.  Interpretation of the law as it relates to special populations of students will be discussed as well.  Participants will be provided a resource to guide decisions for mandatory or discretionary placements to DAEP and/or expulsion.
