Texas Dyslexia Academy 1: Dyslexia Foundations

Texas Dyslexia Academy 1: Dyslexia Foundations is the first of six training opportunities developed to assist school districts and charter schools with better understanding dyslexia and related disorders. In this course, participants will learn how students acquire reading skills, why some students struggle in reading, characteristics of dyslexia, and how to determine if dyslexia is the cause of a student's reading difficulties.

The objectives for this course:

Explore the elements of reading

Define dyslexia and identify dyslexia characteristics

Explore the common risk factors for dyslexia

Understand associated academic difficulties and related disorders

THIS COURSE IS OFFERED ENTIRELY ONLINE. This is a virtual event utilizing the Zoom platform. Participants are not required to create a Zoom account. A computer set-up must include internet and camera capabilities. Participants will receive a Zoom link via email prior to the day of the event. Please make sure that your email address in the ESC-6 system is correct. You can do so by going to the ESC-6 website and clicking on "My Account" on the registration page. Check-in is recommended 15 minutes prior to the start time on the scheduled day of the event. PLEASE DO NOT SHARE THE ZOOM LINK WITH OTHERS. This will ensure that our session will be uninterrupted.
