ELDT Training for New Bus Drivers

Entry-Level Driver Training for new Bus Drivers

Important Session Information:

Entry Level Driver Training

Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) went in effect beginning February 7, 2022. ELDT is federally mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) not by DPS. All states are required to comply with ELDT.

ELDT applies to the following:

* Persons wishing to obtain a CDL with P & S endorsements for the first time.

*Persons that previously had a CDL but let it go back to a regular DL and now wants a CDL again.

*Persons that currently hold a CDL but wishes to add P and/or S endorsements.

ELDT is not required to take the written tests at DPS to obtain a CLP. However, it is required to be completed before they can take the skills tests.

ELDT is not taking the place of the 20 hour School Bus Driver Certification course. Bus drivers (driving any school bus, school activity bus or multifunction school activity bus) are still required by rule to have the certification course.

This course is 3 days in length. If you do not cancel your registration within 24 hours of the class start date, your district will be charged the full training fee.  If you miss a date or need to make up a date for any reason, there is a $50.00 fee per day.
