Disproportionality, Equity and Diversity Series
Transforming Classroom Management and Discipline - Embracing Integrity and Strength Through Culturally Responsive Engagement and Teaching

A variety of professional development activities and trainings focusing on how to promote awareness, understanding, and/or best practices on addressing the needs of diverse students, who are often identified as having academic and/or behavior problems in the school setting.

Sessions and activities may be lead by national and local speakers, as well as ESC6 specialists and representatives from school districts.

Identification, discipline practices, implicit biases and inclusive evidence-based processes will be considered.  Participants may be asked to share their own perspectives.

Important Session Information:

The demands of the 21st century Texas schools implore educators to transform the behavioral and academic outcomes of "all" youth.  We are engaged in DISCIPLINE, STAAR, & WOC wars, currently addressed amid "battle fatigue."  Deficit models of intervention are ineffective and inappropriate for culturally, linguistically, ethnically, and economically diverse (CLEED) learners.

What is necessary for effective leadership, instruction, and strategic classroom management and discipline?  This workshop will assist teachers and leaders in developing mindsets for culturally responsive change agency to empower teachers to work effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse learners from strength, rather than deficit perspectives.  Participants will engage in "Reality Teaching Simulations," designed to empower "all" teachers and leaders to, in turn, empower "all" learners.
