Evaluation of School-Age Students from Birth to Aging Out Using Developmental Assessments

Evaluating school-age children at both ends of the age continuum can present unique challenges for evaluation personnel. This presentation will review different assessments that can be utilized in a holistic evaluation of school-age students from birth to 22. Participants will define the differences between norm-referenced assessments and criterion-referenced assessments. The use of clinical validity data as a qualitative source of information will be explained.



Important Session Information:


During this workshop, learners will recognize different stages of developmental milestones to enhance the interpretation of evaluation results regardless of the student’s age.  Participants will learn how to provide a detailed account of a child’s developmental strengths and weaknesses to make individualized, student-specific recommendations and interventions for school-based teams. This session will highlight the functionality of developmental history and adaptive behavior measures in completing developmental assessments; frequently underutilized by evaluation personnel. A review of the Developmental Profile-Fourth Edition (DP-4) will include principles of use, psychometric properties, administration procedures, scoring, a case example, and interpretation guidance within the context of overall data.
