Special Education Finance Boot Camp for New Directors

One of the greatest challenges a new special education director faces is not just understanding and managing the finance and budgeting of special education funds. The goal is not to just remain compliant, but most importantly to support appropriate services to students with disabilities. This training will start with the most basic building blocks and teach the skills for projecting revenue, for building a compliant, data-driven special education budget, and will build a bank of resources for on-going use.  Being in a small group will allow for specific questions and conversations to address concerns and build confidence.

Content will include:

Part One: Funding Sources, Resources & Tools – We will begin by learning where the money comes from, the expectations for appropriate use of those funds, and what that long string of numbers in your budget means.

Part Two: A Deeper Dive into Grants - Our next step will be a close-up look at the grants that fund your program. You will learn about the basics of EDGAR, excess cost requirements, and the specific program guidelines for the IDEA-B Formula and Preschool grants. We’ll finish our work with grants by reviewing required schedules, the required “set asides” for residential placements and proportionate share funds for private school students.
