Supporting Students With Significant Cognitive Disabilities
Meaningful Math: Math for Students with Complex Access Needs

In an effort to educate students with low incidence disabilities, teachers face challenges in meeting academic, behavioral and social needs.

These sessions will provide resources, strategies and training for those who serve students with complex access needs.  Join this network of teachers, paraprofessionals, specialists, administrators and parents for support and collaboration specifically for serving students with significant cognitive disabilities.

Important Session Information:

For a long time, math for students with complex access needs has revolved around telling time and sorting coins.  With the changes in Federal Law, we have to up our game and teach every student to the standards.  Teachers struggle with how to differentiate for all students, given the variety of levels and skills within the classroom.

This is THE training you need to help make math approachable, meaningful, and easy to differentiate.

We cover the key elements of math, which includes:

  • Numbers and Operations
  • Algebraic Reasoning
  • Geometry and Measurement
  • Data Analysis
  • Personal Finance
  • Plus Putting It All Together

This training is a hands on make-and-take using playing cards.  All participants take 15 ready-made, skill-aligned, standards-supporting math games and activities back to their classroom.  They also leave with plenty of ideas on how to differentiate for all levels of students, including ample opportunities to brainstorm and problem solve together.
